What we check
For each app: can a short-stay visitor sign up, add money, make the payment, and get an unused balance back. For each country: which cards work and how to get cash. Every claim links to the provider’s own documentation, a central bank or official travel advice, and shows the date we checked it.
What the dots mean
- Documented. The provider has published support for it.
- Conditional. It depends on your passport, country, issuer or funding route.
- Blocked. A published rule rules it out.
- Not verified. We found no adequate evidence. That is not the same as unavailable.
Documented does not mean tested. We have not opened accounts, moved money or paid a merchant.
Ordering
Apps are listed alphabetically. Nobody pays to be listed or ranked. There is no “cheapest” badge, because funding and exchange costs differ per person.
Who runs it
The team behind Guac, plus a payment app for Latin America that has not launched. Neither is listed. If either one is, it clears the same bar as everything else, and anything paid or affiliate is labeled where you see it.
